DS 3 + DS4 Cabling Distances
The interconnection of transmission equipment with the DSX (Digital Cross Connect) is achieved with DS-3 and DS-4 telephony coaxes. There are two basic types within this coaxial family.
Cross Connect Coaxial Cables
These are used for a manual connection of circuits within a DSX. Typically they are smaller and more flexible than the interconnect coaxes. This cable is designed for runs between 8 Feet (2.4 meters) and 43 Feet (13 meters).
Interconnect Coaxial Cables
These are used to connect different devices within a central office. Depending on the signal rate and type of coaxial cable, runs can be from 90 Feet (27 meters) to 450 Feet (137 meters).
